Last weekend I had the joy of photographing the sweetest first birthday party in Beecher, Illinois, hosted in a beautiful home with decor thoughtfully handmade by the baby’s aunt just for the celebration. It was warm, inviting, and the perfect setting for a cozy family gathering.
As a family photographer in Crete, Illinois, I’m always looking for connection, movement, and genuine expressions — and this party had all of it. From curious little hands reaching for balloons to laughter between family members, every photo tells the story of a first birthday full of love.
One of my favorite parts of this session was challenging myself to use my 50mm lens in a tighter indoor space. It allowed me to get close, focus on emotion, and create images that feel warm, personal, and memory-filled.
You don’t need a grand venue for beautiful photos. You just need real moments, good light, and people who love each other.
